Eastern Railroad Discussion > Georiga Action and VarietyDate: 09/20/14 07:39 Georiga Action and Variety Author: djy23 Hey all,
I managed to get out for a good bit on Friday, 9/19/14, and saw some good trains in and around the Atlanta,GA area. My main goal for the day was to get CSX Q210-18 with an ICE leader but I shot some other goodies while waiting for it to depart Tilford. I went to Austell,GA first to catch NS grain train 50D that had a cool CN/CEFX/DME team which I chased to Inman Yard. While waiting for the 50D to show up, #221 came in with the Virginian heritage unit on the point. Picture 1 - NS 50D throttles up and crosses to track #2 at Austell with a CN C44-9W on the point. Gotta love those Canadian cabs. Picture 2 - 50D comes into Atlanta at Bolton Road with a miracle break in the clouds while #288 rolls by going the opposite direction. Picture 3 - NS #1069 brings #221 into Inman while 50D speeds by. 50D's crew would bring the train to East Point to tie it down. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/20/14 07:39 by djy23. Date: 09/20/14 07:41 Re: Georiga Action and Variety Author: djy23 I then went to Parrott Ave to catch NS roadrailer #251 that had a CitiRail leader whom I chased into East Point.
Picture 4 - #251 speeds into Atlanta City Limits hot on the heels of a slow moving #220. The trailing SD60 is NS #6532 which is an ex UP. Picture 5 - CSX AC44CW #559 leads CSX intermodal train Q042 past a stopped NS #251 at Oakland Junction on the southwest side of Atlanta. CSX has trackage rights over NS between East Point and Jones Ave in Atlanta which are exercised daily. Picture 6 - A close up look of worn CN C44-9W #2511 tied down on 50D at East Point,GA. I think these Canadian cabs are really cool with the four pane windshield and bell between the number boards. After I was done messing with #251 I got word that the CSX Q210 with the ICE was leaving Tilford. Not good for me as it was now 4:15 on a Friday in downtown Atlanta...I hopped on I-285 and cruised north to I-75 without a problem and then BAM. Wall of traffic. I sat on the interstate moving every other minute or so while I knew that Q210 had clears all the way to Acworth. A friend called to tell me that Q042 was meeting Q041 at Emerson which would allow me to beat Q210 to Emerson without a problem thank the lord. Picture 8 & 9 - Since I can't decide which picture is my favorite Ill post both. Iowa, Chicago & Eastern snoot nose SD40-2 #6212 (City of Buffalo) leads CSX empty autorack train Q210 (Cayce,SC - Louisville,KY) through Emerson,GA doing every bit of 60mph with engineer Devlin at the throttle. This guy sounded good flying by! Thanks for looking! Date: 09/20/14 10:03 Re: Georiga Action and Variety Author: agrafton Nice series, good mix of angles, locations and trains.
