CN 8873 works the Durand Yard, and then Continues on We
Author: jkh2cpu

Railfanning Durand, MI, is slow as far as train counts go, but it's often
interesting due to the switching that happens there, and of course there
is the interest of the two shortlines, Great Lakes Central, and the G&W
property Huron and Eastern.

The video starts with the CN 8873 on the High Wye, where the engine has stopped
with its train extending back on the main. A cut is made and the engine slowly
drags 56 cars through the Wye and down the Holly sub, until it can reverse into
the yard. We watch as the engineer hurls the train back to the yard, with the
conductor hanging off the side of the train. Later, the engine returns light
to the train on the main, and then heads out of town to the west.

Is this the same location that one of the Trains Magazine's winning photo sequences was taken?

If you see the video before it starts to play with the locomotive coming around the corner. Yes, that's the exact same location where John shot that 3 photograph sequence that was in Trains Magazine. Although all the water has subsided.

Yep, it's the same spot. It's a regular wilderness right in the heart of Durand :-)

John K. Herreshoff, aka jkh2cpu, which is a long story.
