Eastern Railroad Discussion > new rail yard between Deshler and hamler

There has been even more chatter about this new suspected railyard, I am hearing between 65 and county road 7 on the south side of the tracks. Anyone else hearing this and does it make sense?

Well that seems to be on par with length of intermodal yard. I hope this does not include recieveing and departure tracks. As they need all the room they can get to recieve trains off the mainline. Trains are not getting any shorter so when you need to yard a 10k ft dog you will need the room.

I heard that CSX was buying land west of Deshler for a new hump yard that would replace Willard, Wallbridge and Garrett.

I don't see how there would be enough room west of Deshler, that would just create a huge bottleneck wouldn't it?

Not really

I live right on that mainline and west of Deshler, I haven't heard anybody selling anything yet. I also heard they were buying land eat of Deshler, as well as they were looking to build between Hamler and holgate. Maybe nothing is going on, but the rumor I am hearing the most is between Deshler and Hamler.

With all of the money spent to expand Willard, really doubt they would replace it, maybe suplement it.

Correct. What I have heard is the possibility west of Hamler on the south side because there is a siding there in place. Heard nothing about a new hump yard either. Between 65 and 7 there is 3 miles of running room.

Seems to me by going between Deshler and Hamler that would give them great access to the north south line to pick up some of the industry in Leipsic?

No land has been bought yet. With lots of stubborn landowners in area including me. It may be a difficult task. Yard would be to help relieve pressure off Stanley Barr and Willard.

Can't see how it would be possible. Just another rumor...not enough room. And no "storage tracks" on the main. It would be just like "New Willard" AKA, North Baltimore...a screwed up mess!

If I was locating it I would place it east of deshler on north side of tracks across from intermodal yard but much longer. I would have a minimum of thriple track from East Fostoria through to Hamler with yard leads extending both ways long enough to hold a modern train off the main.
Now back to the real world....

So has CSX began trying to purchase land between Deshler and hamler or are you just saying that it would be difficult if they did?

North Baltimore has improved with the addition of some more yard tracks. Although with peak season for Christmas starting today it may get tested soon.

That's very possible if the local government agencies think this would be good for the local area.

So many different rumors makes me believe they either don't know what they want to do or it is all just rumors and nothing is gonna happen.
