NS 8098 (Conrail)
Author: WMMike

Just spotted the Conrail unit headed west on the MONL through the South Side of Pittsburgh 3rd of 4 on a loaded coal drag at 4:20 PM.
My in the field reporter who lives along the tracks could only tell me they were "black cars".

This engine was on a 67D empty gyp train for Shelocta over the weekend but ended up sitting in Altoona, reportdly with cab signal issues. Sounds like the NS added some power and they are on the move again...Mon Line to OC bridge to the Conemaugh...

People keep describing these 66D/67D trains as gypsum but I'm increasingly doubtful about that. The 66D went to Strawberry Ridge as a load, came out as an empty. That sounds like a limestone train to me, not gypsum. (Limestone goes into the plant, used for scrubbing the stacks, comes out as synthetic gypsum.)
