NS 8102 is in Battle Creek
Author: Ron

The NS 8102 - Pennsylvania Railroad Heritage Locomotive came out of Chicago today and was set off in the CN Yard, Battle Creek, Michigan.

I was able to get a few photographs of it, along the GTW 4633, and a surprise for me, the CN 8101 was here in the yard also.

The NS was almost spotless.... I never expected to see it this clean!

#1) - NS 8102

#2) - GTW 4633 and NS 8102

#3) - NS 8102

#4) - CN 8101

#5) - NS 8102 and the CN 8101

#6) - GTW 4633, NS 8102, and the CN 8101. This is as close as I could get all three in one photograph.

I do not know where the NS 8102 will go, but my guess would be back toward Chicago.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is that scheme on CN 8101?

The CN 8101 is one of four EMD Lease/Test locomotives that CN ended up buying. They put some numbers and the CN noodle on them and put them to work. They'll one day get some CN colors.

I don't remember right off hand, but the 8100 and 8101 were built to EMD standards. The other two, 8102 and 8103 were built to CSX standards, heavier than the standard EMD locomotive, and I believe that CN might have removed the extra ballast from them.

Here is about a one minute video of the GTW 4633 and the NS 8102. They were not moving, so drove past them. It's not the best way to shoot video, but it works.

Nice, Interesting photos and more interesting is the absence of any rail cars even your video is "railcarless"

The photographs and the video was taken at the very east end of the yard. About 90% of the switching is done at the west end of the yard. Most of the trains that arrive in Battle Creek, that will be switched here, and not run-through, will stop with their tail-end just in the clear at the west end. The Yardmaster will usually let the crew know when they are clear of the lead and to cut off the power.

This photograph shows a couple tracks with cars.

NS 8102 is BACK in Battle Creek
Author: Ron

#1) - It made it back to Battle Creek, Michigan, this afternoon around 6 P.M. As the only locomotive on M371 from Flat Rock, Michigan.

It should already have left Battle Creek to continue on toward Chicago.

It arrived here on Monday, October 20, and it sneaked out of the Battle Creek Yard Monday evening under cover of darkness and ended up in Flat Rock.

#2) - En route at Potterville, Michigan, about 5:45 P.M.
