In spite of the lack of steam power, its still much fun to chase first generation diesel's!
Thank you Steamtown.

Nice shooting Ed...but I think I'll wait until the A-B-A set is ready to go. Next year?

That's a nice narrative set, thanks for sharing. First generation power is always a delight.

Any ideas about the heritage on the combine in the consist? If it's a DL&W MU I probably wobbled across it at least once when they stuck 'em in the middle of a set. The 2.43 out of Newark was a sure bet to have a consist in the middle of the train. It would become the first Gladstone car out of Summit when the train was split.

(The consists were often used in the 1960s to deliver the Newark Star Ledger's afternoon editions to suburban towns along the lines. The baggage man would toss off a few bundles at each suburban stop. Kids like me would pick up the 3.30 and 4.30 and 5.30 final editions, and haul them to Schnipper's and Dambeck's etc in Madison. Happened up and down the line, I'm sure.)

They say there's a prototype for everything - think twice
when you see a child's layout with mixed first generation
power, lol.

Nice shots, Ed. Always enjoy your show and tells - thanks!

Good stuff. I'm a big fan of 1st generation diesel power. But then I was around in the days of black & white .

In photo number 6, the plow looks to be within millimeters of the pavement!

All cars in the train are painted for their correct heritage. The combine is CNJ 303. It is the wheelchair access car.

Thanks for that info.

I know there are a few DL&W cars in the steamtown fleet, and several in dire need of rehab.

Looks like you had a good day Ed. Judging from your first three photos, I guess the storm this past week blew the leaves off the trees.
