Eastern Railroad Discussion > NS Lafayette District Maintenance and New SignalsDate: 10/30/14 10:47 NS Lafayette District Maintenance and New Signals Author: DPM To add to the posts earlier this week, track maintenance crews were busy again yesterday on the NS Lafayette District between Logansport and Rockfield, IN. Only a handful of trains ran through that territory during daylight hours.
Signal crews were also active. New equipment was being delivered to the control points at Sycamore and Danes just east of Logansport. There is a growing staging area of new signals in Logansport. From those of us trying to get more pictures of trains passing the Wabash-style searchlight signals on the Lafayette District before they are replaced with generic color lights, some questions: 1. Can anyone share the scope and timetable for this round of signal replacements? Is it just concentrated around Logansport for now, or are they planning to re-signal the entire district like they did recently on the Fostoria District? They seem to be trying to finish at least some of the work before winter and I'm wondering how far they plan to get. 2. Are the maintenance crews working seven days per week, or are there days when traffic patterns during daylight hours are less affected? Thank you, Dave Edited 2 time(s).
