New Paint...
Author: dharris

You could almost smell the fresh paint on this one. CP Works, Altoona, PA 11/24/14. Took this just before things jammed up on the Est Slope due to a minor derailment a little further west near MG.

Looks great in fresh paint. Not a fan of those "Admiral Cabs" though... Locomotives are not ships -- my opinion that Board of Directors should stick to fiduciary and oversight matters and not interject their personal preferences into operations... Can't see how those slanted windows really do jack -- hopefully some crew members can weigh in on the usefulness when operating...

I would have left it a HH however not to be. This cab is a 1000% better than the cowl cabs of today's run of the mill boring motors...just my opinion.

New cabs were needed. The old ones are going on 40 years old, and are starting to rust through in spots. The new cabs are stronger, and the slanted windows helps cut down on glare/reflections. Windows that are straight up and down will reflect all kinds of stuff back at you at night.

Getting rid of the glare, lowers the chances a crew will see something that they mistake for a signal. The SD70aCE's and SD70M-2's are the worst, when it comes to glare.

I saw NS 2800 SD75M on 306 when they were coming out of the diesel shop at the Belt in Chicago a few days ago, they all look nice when they have a fresh coat on em
