NYS&W Utica NY Branch: GP40 3040 On Ex-NYO&W & Schuyler
Author: ut-1

The first picture shows NYS&W GP 40 3040 having just shoved a covered hopper across the ex-NYO&W bridge over the Sauquoit Creek in New Hartford on Dec 17th. The crew just completed spotting some boxcars for Oneida Warehouse in New Hartford. The covered hopper is destined for a customer on NYS&W's ex-West Shore trackage in New York Mills. The West Shore switch lies approx 1/3rd of a mile eastward of the bridge.

The second picture, taken today, shows the 3040 leading a one-car freight northbound on Schuyler Street, Utica. The crew has nearly completed their journey from Sangerfield, the present southern terminus of the Utica branch, and are approx 1 mile from the "barn." The tracks run down Schuyler St approx 4/10ths of a mile.

Thanks guys! Now can anyone here identify what that odd-looking pink-colored apparatus is on the front of the locomotive in the second picture? If so, what might it be??

at first, I thought part of that device might have been a broom for switch clean outs, but I have no idea what the other thing might be

Might be wheel chocks for when the engine's parked.
