Eastern Railroad Discussion > Coal Tipple on NS at MarionDate: 10/09/02 17:44 Coal Tipple on NS at Marion Author: 3rdRail I took this pic about a year ago and since got a better lens. Took this from trackside off RR property. Came out a lot better. Even had a slug on it.

Denny Date: 10/09/02 17:58 Re: Coal Tipple on NS at Marion Author: 3rdRail That would be it, as the slug was the third unit. And The OLS was the next train that way.

Gary Date: 05/07/24 08:00 Re: Coal Tipple on NS at Marion Author: HotWater Guys, that isn't a "Coal Tipple". That was a locomotive fueling "Coal Dock". A "Coal Tipple" was generally located at a coal mine, and was used for loading hopper cars with various grades/sizes of newly mined & washed coal.
