Eastern Railroad Discussion > The Station at Canaan, CTDate: 01/26/15 15:32 The Station at Canaan, CT Author: Ray_Murphy Back on October 13th, 2001, the station at Canaan, CT (originally built as a joint station by the Housatonic RR (later the New Haven) and the Connecticut Western RR (later the CNE)) was destroyed by arson. It has been partially rebuilt (the pictures were taken yesterday), but apparently the project has not moved any closer to completion for a few years. Does anyone know what the situation is?

http://railroads.uconn.edu/exhibits/canaan/index.html The fire dept was able to save the wing along the Housatonic RR. The tower and the wing along the (abandoned) Central New England (is this the right RR name?) was lost. And if you'd like one for your HO empire: http://www.branchline-trains.com/laserart-structures/trackside/stations-ho.html * JB * Date: 01/27/15 07:40 Re: The Station at Canaan, CT Author: Lackawanna484 I visited there about five years ago. There were tenants in the first floor offices (maybe an architectural firm and an investment firm). It looked about the same as these pictures.
FOOD ALERT, stop reading if this bothers you There's a wonderful old New England diner right across the parking lot. Waffles, sausage, pancakes, strong coffee, etc in an old stainless steel diner. Great atmosphere. Date: 01/27/15 08:43 Re: The Station at Canaan, CT Author: Ray_Murphy prr4828 Wrote:

The CNE was the third name of the east-west line. It was originally the Connecticut Western, and then the Hartford & Connecticut Western, after the former went bankrupt following the Tariffville bridge disaster in 1878.
