Eastern Railroad Discussion > 1940's Where & What?Date: 01/27/15 17:59 1940's Where & What? Author: cinder The picture below was taken by my grandfather in the 1940's. Can anyone tell me where it may have been taken and what the engine is?

There's a curve at the station and a big house in the background. Someone knowledgeable of the B&M, would probably know. I like the photo!

Date: 01/27/15 20:28 Re: 1940's Where & What? Author: wabash2800 Yes, that is not too unusual. For some reason there is no need for a blade for trains headed in that direction.

JS Date: 01/28/15 04:27 Re: 1940's Where & What? Author: Labby From our local "Dean" of Northeast Rail History, Bill Clynes:
This is Claremont Jct. NH, on the Conn River Line. Ready to depart e.b. across the state to Concord NH. Not a commuter run, just a backwoods B&M line serving several towns along the way. During the steam era, the passenger trains were handled by 2-6-0's, later a gas electric car with a trailer. Even later sold to a shortline (may have been a Pinsley company), and ran the gas electric service for about a year and then it was all over. Most of the line is abandoned except for some industrial trackage right at Claremont Jct. Great Picture. Bill Clynes Date: 01/28/15 05:32 Re: 1940's Where & What? Author: kpcmcpkva Would that short line have been the Claremont & Concord?? I believe that line was a Pinsley line
Date: 01/28/15 07:17 Re: 1940's Where & What? Author: Labby What trackage left at Claremont Jct., is owned by Concord Claremont RR of PA.
Was "Pinsley" something different than the present Pinsly? Date: 01/28/15 14:02 Re: 1940's Where & What? Author: cinder Wow.....Thanks for the help. I can see right where my grandfather stood over 65 years ago. This picture is "street view" from Google earth. Note the small switcher in the distance.

The B&M sold this line to the Pinsly Cos. and it was called the Claremont and Concord. This line ran through the Lake Sunapee region of NH. Bob Callahan Monticello, IN |
