67A is listed on the Railfan Pennsylvania site as an empty hopper train (EHOP) from Gypsum, OH to York Haven, PA. Why would empty hoppers be going to the PPL at Brunner Island and why would it be an odd number eastbound?

It's an empty train to pick up spent lime, also known as synthetic gypsum, which is what you get when the "scrubber" stone in the plant's smokestacks is done extracting the sulphur and whatnot from the smoke. This material is an economic substitute for gypsum rock, best known as the main component of wallboard.

This particular train will take the synthetic gypsum to a processing plant in (drumroll, please) Gypsum, OH, so named because it also has a natural gypsum mine -- but one that has largely played out.

As far as the train's numbering, nearly all NS unit trains are even-loaded, odd-empty regardless of which way they go.

Patch, thanks for the info. Now I remember about the odd/even thing. The loaded oil trains coming into the DCR at Reybold, DE are still even east, odd west.

Odd is West and generally mty, Even is East and loaded, this direction is backwards but odds can be South and evens North
