EATON TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Two people were flown from the scene of a crash involving a car and a train in Lorain County.

Highway Patrol confirms to newsnet5.com people were flown by helicopter after the crash.

Troopers did not give their conditions. (Update below of the conditions.)

The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened at Route 83 and Capel Road in Eaton Township.

The Sheriff's Office could not provide any other details at this time.

A crash involving a train and a tanker truck happened at the same location on December 26, 2014 .

EATON TWP. — One man is dead and a woman seriously injured after the car they were driving was struck by two trains at the Capel Road and Route 83 at 5:10 p.m.

Witness Dan Draeger of Avon Lake said he was about 100 yards behind the northbound four-door tan Chevrolet Malibu. Draeger said the driver slowed down, but continued through the crossing despite the gates being down. The warning lights also were flashing, he said.

Draeger said the driver swerved left before being struck by the westbound train.

Ohio Highway Patrol Lt. Travis Hughes said a second eastbound train also struck the car. Hughes said the names of the victims are not being released until relatives are notified.

LORAIN COUNTY – Two people were transported to an area hospital via helicopter after their car was involved in an accident with a train on Route 83 and Capel Road in Eaton Township.

Both passengers are now dead, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Sad situation for all involved. An interesting news story this morning on the radio mentioned this is the second accident at this crossing in two weeks. The crossing has clear sight lines of the extremely straight tracks. It is right next to the Lorain county prison.

I have railfanned at this location several times. The tracks are easy to view in both directions. A sad loss of life for the occupants of the car and unforgettable trauma for the train crews. God bless them all.
