Winter on the West Slope

Classes have kept me busy, but I finally found time to go through and edit my photos from last weekend's trip to the Pittsburgh Line. Here are 9 of my favorites from the weekend, in chronological order:

1. 262 crossing the stone arch bridge at Mount Union, PA under a spotless blue sky on Friday, February 20.
2. Later that same day, 11V attacks the uphill climb through CP-ALTOONA with an SD80MAC in the lead.
3. The next morning, we started off at Lilly to witness this helper set passing under the signal bridge. The area was subject to a winter storm warning the entire day, and several inches fell while we were out shooting.

More from Saturday, February 21...

4. With marker lights on, 04T heads through Lilly on Track 2.
5. The snow is coming down even harder now as 12G and 17G meet under the Summerhill signal bridge.
6. 12G helpers shove under the signal bridge.

Last set:

7. 10N passes under the road bridge at Jamestown, which also conveniently hosts a set of position light signals.
8. Two trains meet at Cresson as the snowfall starts to fade.
9. Helpers on the back of the westbound drift down the grade and kick up the snow.

Love the first one - one of my favorite locations. That's the same spot where I caught some Bald Eagles from back in the fall.

Very nice series of photos with a mix of winter weather. I had a chance to be out on the West Slope in January 2010 and will it was very cold, it was an enjoyable trip.

Very nice images and great locations.
I really hope to do some railfanning up there next winter. Hopefully it won't be a "warm one". :-))
