Eastern Railroad Discussion > CN's Engineering Train in Downtown ChicagoDate: 03/01/15 15:09 CN's Engineering Train in Downtown Chicago Author: inCHI I work in downtown Chicago, and sometimes circumstances force me to drive rather than take the L. To skip the cost of parking, I park at Ping Tom park, right near the St. Charles Air Line and CN, and ride my bike into work. Part of the bargain is that I might catch a train.
Yesterday I lucked out on my ride back and saw CN's engineering train get the light to cross the Metra/RI diamonds, so I flew through slush and snow to get up on the 18th st. bridge. Looks like the second car was a Pullman Standard 60' box before. Date: 03/02/15 09:55 Re: CN's Engineering Train in Downtown Chicago Author: BN_FAN The 'ATGMS test car' with solar panels is interesting in a couple of ways... it's a second-hand 50'-6" Berwick boxcar that appears to have been retrofitted with a 12'-6" plug door for it's current assignment rather than years ago when CN rebuilt many ex-RBOX cars. Also odd that it keeps its revenue service number rather than a 5-digit OCS number. Here it is in 2005, RRPA shows it later got the CN website and small logo scheme
