I traveled to Rome, NY today on business & noticed this BNSF-led oil train waiting at the Rome Amtrak station. I stopped, took a few pics, and noticed another oil train approaching, this one led by a CP engine.

Made it to Utica, approx 15 miles from Rome, to catch the CP oil train passing by.

And, surprise of surprises, saw a BNSF engine at the head of another oil train but on the Utica-Lyons Falls, NY tracks of the Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern!! A friend who works at CSX later advised that this train is "waiting for its turn in the rotation." before continuing its journey on CSX.

Looks like a good old fashioned Utica winter. When I was trainmaster there in 1969, we had 320" of snow in boonville, NY and had to run the Russell plow on the head end of ULF-1 two to three times a week.

I would rather fantasize this train on the MA&N either came down from Massey Yard in Watertown or from Montreal through the Adirondacks.

Does MA&N gain a fee for storage service???

They should send CSX an invoice.
