Deshler diamonds.
Author: EL-SD45-3632

I noticed that CSX has slow boards on the diamonds again. It was just last fall they got back to track speed after replacing them. What gives? Are they settling again? Farmer, any ideas?

They've got a lot of speed restrictions between Willard and Chicago. Every time Sperry or that damned Nordco gets on the tracks, plenty of slow orders follow! As soon as the weather breaks, there will be a lot of track work going on. Yesterday while while enroute from Chicago, I noticed at least eight interlockings had switches waiting to be installed. Add that to all the rail, ties and tie plates, it's gonna be a mess probably all summer!

Sperry defect is the reason for speed restriction on diamond.

I can't picture all the work getting completed this year. Last I heard sixty some new turnouts between Willard and Pine Jct. Almost 30 miles of new rail between Willard and Garrett. More rail west of Garrett also. New ties Sherwood to Indo both tracks.
When the ground thaws it's going to look like yellow tulips growing everywhere because of mud spots.
Sperry is here on Willard sub every 31 days now to test.

It's the same way on the NS Detroit District, lots of speed restrictions from Sperry.

Gotta get one of those new diamonds in the Corn City so Willard/Garrett Sub trains can rocket through at real track speed not 40.

CSX spends a lot of money on fuel getting back up to speed every few miles due to diamonds and their permanent slow orders.

I hate when the Sperry truck is parked at the hotel! Nevertheless, I sense there are far fewer big pileups from broken rails than there were twenty years ago.

No reroute that I know of except the NS and that would not work to well because it would miss Willard/Fostoria/North Balitmore & Deshler not the best option. They will have work windows and they will hold trains. The hot ones will get through but most of the trains will just sit in the yards or look at a signal on the main during these windows.

There was talk of using the CFW&E before the NS started using it.
Also two rail teams will be paired together with one doing a rail and the other doing the opposite rail. Along with working 24 hours at times with two twelve hour shifts to keep train delays down.

Nothing like sitting at a red signal ALL DAY waiting for the opposite track to clear up!!

It's a nice way to make easy money. Even though
it is boring as heck.
