Hello everyone. On Friday I was able to catch one of Wheeling & Lake Erie’s newest locomotives, WE 6985, at Gambrinus Yard in Canton, OH. I believe the unit was an ex FURX and was recently purchased by W&LE. Sorry the pictures aren’t the best, but I worked with the lighting that I had. Being that the unit was trailing also didn’t help, but it was the first time I have seen this it in person, so I took advantage of the opportunity. All pictures are taken form the Gambrinus Ave bridge. Thanks for looking and have a great week everyone.

Depending on its former number, it's either ex-FURX (First Union) or ex-GCFX (Alstom).

ToledoPatch's first guess was correct. Renumbered FURX 3028 as WE 6985 in February 2015.

Wasn't really a guess - I just didn't know the number.

FURX3000-3049 were painted in these colors, but so also were GCFX3053-3068 (not sure about 3069-70-71).

All WLE-acquired units in that paint scheme are ex-FURX.

GCFX 3069 was the highest numbered unit painted in FURX colours.

You can also add FURX 3050-3052 to the list.

What is the gold object on the rear middle axle of the green and silver unit?

Paint. Simply paint, nothing more.

It's a replacement traction motor end cover that just happens to be yellow.

Expect the similar-looking WE 6987 to be released in the next couple days.
