Roster Shots of two NS Excursion Cars
Author: MartyBernard

The data on the cars are from Jerry LaBoda's Passenger Car Photo Index at: http://passcarphotos.info/

I photographed these cars while they were waiting for excursion runs with SOU 630 at the North Carolina Transportation Museum at Spencer, NC on March 27, 2013.

1. NS Tennessee #42 is ex-ADIX 1681, exx-CDOT, exxx-PaTrain, nee-C&O 1621.  It is a Pullman Standard light-weight HEP generator - 66-seat coach, formerly a cab - generator - coach, originally a 52-seat coach.  It had an amazing shine.

2. NS New Jersey #46 is ex-ADIX 1605, exx-CDOT, exxx-ACPA, nee-C&O 1624.  It is a Pullman Standard light-weight 102-seat coach, originally a 52-seat coach.

If they have 102 seats in the New Jersey, the passengers are knocking knees.

Marty, are you sure they have 102 seats?  That's very hard to believe as Sharon has just stated, the passengers are knocking knees.  Are they air plane seats?  I just cannot imagine 102 seats in that type of car.

Unless they have 3-2 seating.

102 seats.....how to double deck in a single level car.

Jerry LaBoda's site says NS excursion coaches nos. 43, 46, and 47 have been rebuilt to 102 seats.  If he says so, I believe it is correct.  Those of you who doubt it have never been in a commuter coach with 3 - 2 seating, as njmidland suggests they must have.  With 3 - 2 seating that's about 20 rows which is fine for a non-overnight coach.

well they came from commuter service so perhaps that's where they got their 3-2 seating

I dont know about 3-2 or number of seats but I do know that on one of NS excursions i overheard some older passengers complain about how the seats weren't very comfortable, were upright and couldn't recline.
