Favorites from the first four months of 2015

I've been very lucky so far in 2015...I've managed to catch a lot of awesome trains all over Ohio. In 2014 I wasn't quite used to my Nikon D40 / Tamron 18-270 lens combo, but I've been able to learn from many other railfans and photographers, and I hope to keep improving. I've seen over 100 trains all across Ohio so far this year, about 75% of that being W&LE. Here's some highlights from the first four months of 2015.

1) W&LE SD40T-2 5413 leads westbound train 213 through a curve in Bolivar, Ohio, on the snowy morning of January 26th, 2015. I was able to find a tree branch that seemed to nicely frame the lead locomotive, and the daily Rook-Brewster road freight just happened to have a classic Rio Grande tunnelmotor leading. Six inches of fresh snow had been put down that morning. I was able to slowly trod my way through the roughly 10 inches of snow that had piled up over the last few days to get a few shots as the train passed.
2) UP 5407 and 9677 pull 51 flatcars loaded with pipe east through Jewett, Ohio, on March 2nd, 2015. This was W&LE train 194, whihc took pipe from the Welspun company in Little Rock, Arkansas, to a pipe storage and distiribution center in Yorkville, Ohio. These trains have since stopped running, but I was able to well-document them.
3) One of my favorite catches so far this year has been this train... the W&LE Carrollton local rolling toward the bridge over Sandy Creek in Oneida, Ohio, on the sunny and snowy afternoon of March 6th, 2015.

Three more pictures...

4) CSX 8514 leads train Q512 northbound underneath the B&O signalbridge at South Deshler, Ohio, on March 23rd, 2015. The spectacular sunrise was a nice bonus.
5) W&LE 200 rolls south (west) across Market Street in Navarre, Ohio, on April 10th, 2015. I was going around town looking for a good photo angle and found this spot. Thankfully I was able to time it perfectly (which rarely ever happens) and everything worked out for this shot.
6) Also on April 10th, W&LE 6315 pulls train 237 west by a grain elevator complex in Kidron Station, Ohio, in stllar afternoon light.

I''m looking forward to what the remainder of 2015 has to offer, and to be able to further improve my photgraphy skills.

Matt

Photography skills look pretty good - well exposed, level, well framed, and in focus.

Beautiful images. My favorite is number three with W&LE 112 framed by the bridge.

That first picture could pass for a scene from where the engine's former stomping grounds once were Matt; Colorado area with the pine tree and the snow.  Well framed Matt.
