Eastern Railroad Discussion > Oil & Gas: "We're not going to run and hide"Date: 04/23/15 08:32 Oil & Gas: "We're not going to run and hide" Author: Lackawanna484 Energy chieftain Rich Kinder spoke recently about the need for more pipelines in the US. Although his comments focused on the fact that one of the areas of the US with the highest energy prices (New England) is fighting new gas pipelines, he took the opportunity to chide his peers for running and hiding. The comments can apply to rail carriers of oil and ethanol, as well as the other pipeline operators.
By letting go control of the argument, and allowing the protests to dominate the news, energy companies have allowed opponents of crude by rail etc to dominate the conversation. No response to folks in Bergen County NJ about crude by rail, for example. Or to comments by shoot-from-the-lip politicians, no matter how silly they may be. Kinder: "We have done more as an industry to advance the cause of raising living standards across the world than any other industry I can think of, and we don’t do a great job of selling how important what we do really is,” Kinder said. “Sometimes I think we hide behind it like we’re selling cigarettes.” Kinder Date: 04/23/15 08:53 Re: Oil & Gas: "We're not going to run and hide" Author: Narr8rdanny This is the result of industries cowing to environmentalist domination of the media. Maybe it's time the oil industry took back some of that real estate. Like Kinder said, it's not like they're selling cigarettes. It's an absolutely vital commodity for Pete's sake.

Date: 04/23/15 09:28 Re: Oil & Gas: "We're not going to run and hide" Author: Out_Of_Service as they should be coqeeing and bending over backwards because their industry and the fossil fuels they produce have been the most responsible for the negative impact on the environment
