The Amtrak cars ended up a good distance away from the NEC, and landed in CR's Frankford Junction yard. The "collision" may not have been so much a cause, but a secondary incident from a derailment. Date: 05/12/15 20:35 Re: Amtrak Derailment Author: hartrick24 The longer Fox News covers this, now about 1.5 hours the more stupid the questions get. I do pray all come out of this ok... Steve
Date: 05/12/15 20:54 Re: Amtrak Derailment Author: willobi 243 on board. 5 crew member, 238 passengers. 5 confirmed deaths, 6 critical, 43 others transported to the hospital. Another sad day on the RR. My heart goes out to all involved.

Steve i don't know if this is supposed to be some lame criticism of a particular network, or if this just happens to be the channel you are watching, but if you bothered to flip around the dial, you would see that stupid news questions and comments are not limited to any particular network. Date: 05/13/15 04:50 Re: Amtrak Derailment Author: ChrisA. This is very true, stupidity and ignorance runs wild on most of the news channels, I want to know what an overhead journal box is,,,,,,from ABC news, Let us all pray for the victims

I rarely bother to watch the 24-hour news channels after incidents like these - certainly not for long. It's just the same B-roll over and over again while they speculate about what happened and raise spurious questions to kill time. Steve CNN started "reporting" the business of a collision with a CSX freight shortly after the incident. Which clearly wasn't the cause of this crash. Next we will hear Brian Williams was one of the first responders... Date: 05/13/15 06:30 Re: Amtrak Derailment Author: blackcatd9 Looking at the curve on Internet Maps.
By now those who are viewing this thread have probably gone to the location of Frankford Ave. and E. Butler St., Philadelphia PA. Indeed, very sad. bcd9 ∑:=( Date: 05/13/15 06:48 Re: Amtrak Derailment Author: Ohiorailfan Ive heard that the train was doing 108 MPH around a 50 MPH curve.
