Eastern Railroad Discussion > Railfanning Tennessee some additional questionsDate: 05/20/15 10:36 Railfanning Tennessee some additional questions Author: tq-07fan My dad and are leaving Sunday May 24th and staying in Chattanooga for the night at the Chattanooga Choo Choo (Why Not?). Also riding the incline railway. On Memorial Day Monday we will drive to Memphis and stay in West Memphis after visiting Graceland. Tuesday we drive to Lebanon to ride the Music City Star in and out of Nashville. Wednesday we drive home after takimg some pictures of the Music City Star. All three places have been queried here before and I have copied links to some of those results. I think the threads cover the areas of concern pretty good but I had a few additional questions I guess.
Chattanooga http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?2,2878507,2878507#msg-2878507 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?2,2756575,2757075#msg-2757075 23rd Street is mentioned and from Google Street View looks interesting. How safe is that bridge for watching trains? It looks like CARTA route 1 bus does operate on Sunday to nearby Market Street since parking may be an issue there plus it gives us an excuse to ride a bus, not that anyone ever needs an excuse. http://www.carta-bus.org/maps/route1.pdf Nashville and Chattanooga http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?2,3667123,3669338#msg-3669338 No questions for here. Memphis http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?2,2686367,2686367#msg-2686367 Looks like Kentucky Street is THE place to go in Memphis. I guess the only things I need for Memphis is radio frequencies for Kentucky Street and West Memphis. I rode through West Memphis on a bus a couple months ago and realize that there are a lot of areas to avoid there before anyone here makes note of that. Nashville and Nashville and Eastern http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?2,3695084,3695084#msg-3695084 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?2,1667492,1668077#msg-1668077 Looks like Union Station in downtown Nashville is the main place in Nashville to see trains. I don't know if we will stay around too long to see much of the Nashville and Eastern and Nashville and Western as I would like to ride a bus in Bowling Green Kentucky on the way home. Of course the threads here may change that plan, also dependant on weather. Any additional thoughts and feelings let me know. TIA Jim Date: 05/20/15 12:41 Re: Railfanning Tennessee some additional questions Author: gmojim Kentucky St in Memphis is the only place and best place to go for sure, the south side is best, they have apartment construction, but I think you can get in there, the north side is definitely available. Kentucky St is the first street to the left after you go straight off I-55 bridge on Crump Blvd.
You really do not need scanner as the BNSF and UP and all movements in the area do not call signals. If you are not familar with the area, the radio talk will not help you at all. Further to gmojim's suggestion, attempts at getting closer to the Misissippi River bridges will be met by law enforcement (ask me how I know). They suggested Kentucky St. A good friend of mine tried the Arkansas side.....and got called in for being a guy with a .38, when he actually had a 35....... You'll see your fill of action and I've never had any trouble there. Have a good trip!
