"Anatomy of a crossing bell" .....and P030
Author: cinder

Just thought you might like to see the "innerds" of an old electro-magnet crossing bell as it operates.  That's eastbound P030 in the background at Mance, PA.  Taken yesterday morning.

That is very neat to video, as it's something most of us will never see. And cool to record as someday no doubt that old design will be history.

Do you have the bell wired into a track circuit to alarm you of an approaching train?

The bell is powered by a 12v supply inside the adjacent "caboose".  Of course it is not wired into a track circuit.  A manual lightswitch turns it on and off.
