Exploring an Alco RS-1, Washington Terminal #61 5-25-15

Headed up to Possum Point Power Station here in Virginia to poke around the Ex Washington Terminal RS-1 #61 that is sitting up there today (Of Course with Permission). Ended up with quite a nice batch of photos for the archives. In order here are as follows:
Shot 1:  A view from the Engineer's seat.
Shot 2: Amtrak's Auto Train decided to show up and provide a nice photo op looking out the conductors side window
Shot 3: A look at the intracate wiring in the Fuse Box that controls all the lights, sanders and such.

Shot 4: An outsiders view of the control stand, seen looking through the window.
Shot 5: Rolled just south of where the locomotive is located to a pretty seculded spot to shoot Amtrak train P164 coming across Quantico Creek.
Shot 6: Full on Roster shot showing just how bad this locomotive is. Notice the Osprey nest located on the long hood, preventing any movement of this locomotive until that is removed.

Shot 7: Now on Quantico MC Base, we see a very interesing move, in X980 hauling 6 large tracked military vehicles.
Shot 8: Closer view at the vehilces.
Shot 9: At the final location of Arkendale, we see Q036 running north crossing 3-2 track as a track inspector sits on 2 track just south of the interlocking.
Hope Everyone Enjoys!!!

That RS-1 is in terrible condition.  I remember when it was in use.  Sad to see...

Very nice group of photos are there any preservation plans for the Washington Terminal RS-1?

The vehicles are M88A2 HERCULES (heavy equipment recovery combat utility lift and evacuation system) for those who don't know what all that means, it's a tow truck for tanks.  Very cool piece of machinery designed around the chassis on the original Patton M48 & M60 tank going back to 1959.  Of course there have been changes since the original design but most of those are armor and powerplant this variant was introduced in 1997.  It can recover a vehicle upto 70 Tons, most of it's towing is with it's winch (140,000 lbs constant pull rating) although it does have a 35' boom capable of lifting vehicles as well.
