The CSX OCS Street Running in West Virginia
Author: Appalachianrails

6/24/2015

For the first time in three years, the CSX Office Car Special traversed the former B&O rails between Huntington and Grafton, West Virginia. The train had run from Cincinnati to Parkersburg, WV the previous day and laid over for the night in Parkersburg with an estimated departure east towards Grafton at around 8:15 am. With the sunlight conditions ideal eastbound trains, me and many others sought out the unique town of Saint Marys, where the Ohio River Subdivision literally runs down the middle of the street. Quite a few people showed up at Saint Marys and then at around 9:15 am, what we had waited for had finally arrived. The CSX train consisting of a trio of former Amtrak F40s and passenger cars loaded with executive CSX officials such as Cindy Sanborn, bisect the town's downtown main street for a few minutes. This was probably a very scenic ride for those riding on board as the rest of the line towards Grafton has a lot of lovely towns and scenery along the tracks.

Enjoy and thanks for looking.

Wow...what a great video.  Well done and thanks for posting.  CSX certainly has no shortage of open end observation cars!

I agree with the others, a great video of a passenger train running through a town on a street.

Thanks for posting, nice video.  Is the engineer required to sound horn at each cross street when street running?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it a day after I'm in St. Mary's the OCS turns up. Oh well I got to see the empty track in the middle of the street.

Great video.

Nice. Thanks for sharing. Did you all notice the guy down the street standing on a vehicle or the cat's meow at the beginning of the video--the Chessie cat? <G>

The little town would make a nice model for modern times.

Perfect light, perfect framing, perfect everything.   Gotta love small American towns, so neat and clean. You got it perfect in every way.

Want to dream?....magine the same train/scene with the 614 on the point?

AMTRAK:  "These F40's are too old--we can't keep them running!"

CSX:  "They work just fine for us."

Any idea of the purpose for the OCS running this route?

Thank you in advance.

Great Video. Luckily there was little or no vehicular traffic.  Why didn't they use one of their many open end
observation cars on the end of the train where it's suppose to be??
