P&W is getting two of them also, and supposedly they'll repaint theirs right away. The downside is that VRS will trade 5 GP40s for its two, and four of the five are painted in VRS family schemes, including all three of the Green Mountain units. The SD70M-2's were owned by FURX. Vermont Railway and P&W purchased the units from FURX. In turn Vermont Railway sold 5 GP40's to GATX and those will most likely be rebuilt to GP38-2 specs and become GMTX lease units when all is said and done. for 2 SD ??? Wonder how the rail will hold up to this weight increase ?????? Date: 08/03/15 07:47 Re: VTR gets SD70M-2's Author: toledopatch LandN1971 Wrote:

VRS leased some CEFX SD70M-types 15 years ago and as far as I know, the railroad didn't fall apart. I'd have preferred that they got rid of the leasers on the property instead of shipping these out, but apparently the rationale is that the GP40s are the oldest and thirstiest locomotives on the railroad. No need for them to "swap out for GP40s." Date: 08/04/15 04:51 Re: VTR gets SD70M-2's Author: tcarl I guess this made the "interesting discussions" list to exhibit just how obscure some of the discussions get on this site. I've read through it twice and this is what I've come up with: some locomotives are going to be swapped around; it's occuring in the east; this is a private discussion (in a public forum) by people "in the know".

Yes, the 301 will be leaving VRS property. Date: 08/04/15 11:54 Re: VTR gets SD70M-2's Author: wcamp1472 Pardon me,
But you've obviously mistaken me for somebody that gives a XXXXXXXX! ( fill-in the expletive...with your favorite choices..). Wes C. Date: 08/04/15 13:27 Re: VTR gets SD70M-2's Author: Lackawanna484 There's a lot of jargon in some of the posts. R-W-B refers to the red white and blue scheme that Rail America applied to the SD70M units which ended up in the Florida East Coast. Other units were in an Alaska Railroad look alike scheme of blue and yellow, and I believe these came in during the Fortress Investment ownership.
The current Vermont Railroad units which will be traded away are painted in several of their (VTR's) heritage paint schemes ETA: P&W refers to the Providence & Worcester a regional railroad which has acquired several unit tank train routes etc. I believe P&W arose when the PennCentral blew off some debt or interest payments and the creditors seized the railroad from them.
