John Date: 08/27/15 07:49 Re: Amtrak Aerials - Drone-Free Author: aehouse The land to the right of the Powells Creek shot is now Leesylvania State Park, a long-time seat of a branch of the Lee family and birthplace of Robert E. lee's father, Light Horse Harry Leee. Also the site of a minor battle between a Confederate battery on the property and a Union naval flotilla (in the Potomac River, adjacent) in Sptember 1861--nobody on either side hurt, but the naval vessels driven back. The property from 1825 until about 1910 was owned by the Henry Fairfax family and descendents; during the war, it was owned by a Confederate staff officer, Lt. Col. John W. Fairfax, who (post-war) granted the RF&P predecessor right of way through his property.
