NS 1069 to the PAL...
Author: Forever-Railfan-45

Question for the pro's on here. I have noticed on HU that the VGN going to the PAL. Is the PAL strictly a coal loading railroad? It seems Kentucky took the brunt of the reduction in coal production as of the last three or four years. They also had a boatload of miners displaced/laidoff due to the loss of coal production. Where does the coal go to that loads on the PAL? Thanks in advance for any help provided.

There was a nice article on the PAL about a year ago in Trains Magazine. I'll have to see if I can find it.

PAL hauls a ton, make that a boat load, aw heck.  They haul a lot of coal to the LG&E power plant at Kosmosdale.  They also haul auto and truck frames from Elizabethtown to Louisville for two Ford Assembly plants that are served by CSX in Louisville.  They also serve some chemical industires on the west side of Louisville.
