Any update to Spotsy VRE Crossroads Station or RF&P Triple Track
Author: rustyr0824

Hey all.
Hope everyones summer went well and everyone is able to get out there and get some nice fall "sweet light" shots.
Question for those around the Fredericksburg area.
Any update on the Spotys Crossroads station?  Trackwork nearing completion? VRE have an open date?
And along those lines will the crew then head north to start triple tracking the RF&P and if so exactly where?
I know there has been some work done in the Brooke Station area, I think drainage work and possible electrical work movement.
But I didn't know exact details and figure there are folks out there that can provide a fall 2015 update.
Thanks
Rusty

Progress on Spotsylvania station is slow - the part of VRE's CEO report pertaining to capital projects probably contains the most info that is available.
I can tell you that some reconfiguration of Fredericksburg and Cross Roads interlockings has taken place to accommodate the third track and that track is belng laid but is a ways from being connected to the existing tracks 2 and 3.

I went through the Crossroads plant a few weeks ago on 52. Lots of work has been done, new tracks were in at the station area.

Looked like several miles of work around Quantico, new signals, etc.

One thing that held up progress on the new main 1 was changing contractors doing the site work. I was up there several weeks ago and they are back at filling in the bank where the 1 track is going. Once they do the back fill shouldn't take too long to actually put in the track.

Very cool.
Thanks for sharing the most recent photos.
Looks like more work to go.
Randomally throwing a date out but maybe the new station will be ready for service come Mon Dec 7 2015.

Still needs electrical and telephone........Maybe opening in mid-November.  Third track will be sometime in 2016.

The area where the construction on the fill for main 1 is at the top of these shots and out of camera range the other side of Rt. 17.

Thank you for sharing as always.
So I have my track numbering correct.
From the south looking north, north of route 17.
The signal bridge has three tracks going under it.
Leftmost or Westernost is Track 3 N/S.
One to right of that is Track 2 N/S.
And the new/being rebuilt one on rightmost or eastmost is new 1 N/S.
And that CSX normally runs 2 North and 3 South.
Correct?
And that VRE trains will come down out of their yard onto the station lead.
From there onto Main 1 all the way to FB to then connect to Main 2.
Correct?
Thanks

Oh and north of 17 along Benchmark Road.
The work that I'm seeing will eventually raise to the current height of existing main lines.
Because right now it looks like you have the Road at one level, up a little is possibly new Main 1.
And up from that is existing Main 2 and 3.

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to understand the 'plan'.
Guess I need to get my boy down there so I can visualize it for myself.
