A few from Harrisburg this weekend
Author: sscannella

CP power continues to make regular appearances in the Harrisburg area two months after NS's acquisition of a large portion of CP's former D&H operations in Pennsylvania and part of New York.

13R from Enola to points south via Hagerstown is seen on the Rockville Bridge Saturday morning with a big CP GE six-axle in the middle.

A short time later, inbound 11R came into Enola off the Buffalo Line with a Pan AM Railways SD40-2.  The Pan Am power is recent addition to their fleet to pool as part of the extended routing of 11R from East Deerfield.  13R used to carry the same 11R symbol until shortly after the D&H sale was announced last year, although for most part the inbound 11R was completly reclassified while at Enola.

Outbound 14R Saturday afternoon had a CP GE on the point, followed by an NS unit and another Pan AM / MEC SD40-2, seen with long late-autumn shadows on the Buffalo Line from Fishing Creek Rd.  14R is the 11R counterpart (formerly symbolled 12R), and will make a right turn in Sunbury onto the NS's D&H Sunbury Line and proceed to Binghamton, NY and points north overnight.

In spite of the oil downturn, several daily oil trains and empties continue to ply the rails through the Harrisburg-area.  First up we see a 67X at Cove on Saturday afternoon.  On Sunday, a 66Z came through with a surprise.  Although Western and Canadian power are the norm on many of the oil trains west of Conway, it almost always comes off and replaced with NS power for the trip over cab-signalled territory east of Conway.  In this case, the two Union Pacific engines stayed with the train, and a cab-signalled ex-Conrail SD40-2 was added to lead east, seen approaching the fuel pad at Harrisburg Sunday afternoon.

You saw some real nice power on the trains you posted here.  You did very well with your time!

Neat stuff as always, Sam.  I never got tired of railfanning in the Hbg area when I lived "back east".
