OOPS a Little Too Far Back
Author: jmbreitigan

While out on an errand today I passed by a frac sand facility near Eighty Four, PA.  While going by I noticed that one of the red bumpers at the end of two tracks did not look right. I pulled in the entrance way and scampered over and took two quick photos and left. It must have been one heck of a bump to bend the rail.

Yes, the engineer who designed that bumper is proud today.

Maybe like a NASCAR 'safer barrier' designed to give a bit in a hard hit..

What surprises me is that the wheels are so rusty that the car must have been sitting there for quite some time.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Back in the old days when the railroads still had firemen in the cab (diesel Era Too) the Engineer would say to the Fireman "Watch the Bump!" and then CABAM! I was in many a cab when that happened and you got thrown a few feet if you didn't brace yourself. Neat pics John.

Jim, I found out that a few loaded frac sand cars got away from the track mobile  they use to move them around. And this happened about a month ago.

Right place at right time, interesting photo and apparently the bumper works as designed.
