Like it should be
Author: ns2557

Was in Hummelstown visiting my brother for the day. Even with the rain, I had to get out and do some shooting. NS had some issues early this am east of Hershey somewhere, Disp was holding trains both east and west due to some sort of OOS problem. Never really heard what it was about.

But while in Hummlstown I heard on the radio the NS H2R heading west to change tracks and then shove east for the Reeses Plant located just east of H-Town. On the rear end of the H2R is what I am refering to in this thread. An ex CR Caboose. Tho now called a Shoving Platform" it still looks right back there on the end. And it's still in CR Blue to boot.

That's CR 21267 an N21 Class Bay window tagging along on the back as it should be.

A few questions about where the second shot is at.  Years ago, wasn't this area here known as CP "Tara" ?  I always thought that it was. But it's been changed to CP "Burke"  When did this change take place?  And what is the significance for the change?   Thanks for looking and any replies.   From wet and cool Hummelstown Pa Ya'll take care.  Ben

I don't think I realized Tara was changed to Burke.

I believe that the original Tara name was shirt for Swatara, which is both the major creek in the area as well as the village between Hershey and Hummelstown.

Swatara Creek. That's what I learned to water ski on way back when. My Dad grew up on the farm that sits just south of the PA Tpke bridge. Iron Mine Run was just behind the farm house over the cliff.  And you are correct for the naming of Tara.  Like you, this one caught me by surprise, the renamig of the CP here.  Thanks.  Ben

BURKE was changed quite a few years ago.  Like other interlockings on the Harrisburg Division, such as DUNKLE, LEISEY, and SULLY, they are named after NS employees from the region who passed away.

Really a perfect looking train---a high nose unit, a few cars and a caboose on the end---doesn't get any better than this.
