A few for the roster hounds out here
Author: ns2557

Passing thru the Akron Oh area early today, over on the W&LE, stopped and grabbed a few shots of what was in position to shoot.  After getting my shots I got to wondering.

How many GP35's were built with Hi Short Hoods and rode on ALCO Type B trks?  And even more to the orig question, How many of these are still operating today in pretty much "as built" condition?

I can answer that the Ann Arbor's 10 units had both, GM&O units had the ALCO Type B's, SOO had some with the ALCO trucks, S&A units had both and SOU 2645-2702 had both. N&W had GP35's with the Hi Short Hood, but other than the N&W and SOU were any others built with HSH?  Did TAG's units have Both or neither?

As for what I can find on the second question. Apparently only the ones on the W&LE remain. W&LE 100,102,103,104,105,106,107,108,110,200 & 2662.  2662 is in a currently one of a kind paint scheme. Somewhere I think I have a shot of the 2679 in the same paint scheme, but if so, it isn't active anymore.

And one more general overall question regarding the W&LE.  The trackage that comes in from the east/northeast, Who did this belong too?  Ex AC&Y perhaps?

Both these shots were taken today in Akron Ohio 05-28-2016 and show units on the active W&LE Roster with both.. Thanks for looking and any replies that can add to what I was able to find.    Ben

All except two of Southern's GP35s rode on trade-in Alco trucks.  The two exceptions rode on Blomberg trucks.  All had high short hoods.

I think W&LE 2703 had EMD trucks (not sure if that unit is on the roster anymore).  W&LE 2679 became W&LE 112, rebuilt with a short hood.

Nice shots.

Add the Wheeling 109, 112, and 2695 to your list of GP35's with AAR type B trucks. The Wheeling through Akron is an east/west route, and is the east end of the former AC&Y.
