Pan Am on the rails in Toledo
Author: toledopatch

I don't think any Pan Am airline-affiliated services ever flew in or out of Toledo, but this morning two locomotives belonging to the rebranded Guilford Rail System led NS #309 through northwest Ohio (along with a half-dozen new Ferromex locos dead-in-tow after pickup at GE in Erie). The Pan Am Railways locos, officially lettered for Maine Central, are rare enough in these parts that I headed out despite dreary skies, which actually helped because had the sun been out, the backlighting would have been horrendous. Now to hope they lead something back east in good light tomorrow.

NS #309 passes the former Central Union Terminal in Toledo about 9:50 a.m. today:

It went by me at milepost 290 at 10:07. Butler is 68 miles west of there, so if it kept moving it should be about there by now if not already by. But it's not a high-priority train.

Train goes to Elkhart.  Total guessing would be a return east to Bellevue, then #310 back to New York, or on a Pittburgh or Enola bound train to connect with the PAS runthroughs out of Enola.  Would love to be proven wrong on my doubts of it leading east in sun on a day off (That alone will negate the possibility).

They only use one of the two tracks that's there now.

Nice capture! It's good to see a couple of Pan Am's more reliable locomotives getting a chance to stretch their legs on decent quality track. The wording of your subject line is intriguing because two weeks earlier it could have been "Pan Am off the rails in Charlemont" as PAS put 22K on the ground blocking traffic for two days!
