Eastern Railroad Discussion > Housatonic operation plan?Date: 05/29/16 12:43 Housatonic operation plan? Author: GeoKathy Will be in western Mass this coming Thursday and wondering if anyone knows the days that the Housatonic runs to Pittsfield and, additonally what they do on other days. In March, drove the line from Pittsfield to Canaan CT and saw nothing until Canaan where they were switching a cement plant. This was on a Friday, March 11. Did not have a chance to talk with the crew that day. See the attached.
Thanks for any help! George Melvin Readfield, Maine Date: 05/29/16 20:06 Re: Housatonic operation plan? Author: toledopatch The plant at Canaan is actually a limestone quarry.

George Date: 05/30/16 07:41 Re: Housatonic operation plan? Author: cjvrr Call their office the day you plan to go, they will probably tell you what is running. Last i knew they were servicing the limestone quarry almost daily. The road trains are a nearly every day one goes north one day, south the next but the CSX interchange at least back in March was hit or miss with CSX not getting cars in or out of the interchange in a timely manner.
Should also add, they do a lot of talking on the radio especially when the road train meets the Limestone train in Caanan so I would suggest having their channels in your scanner. Sorry I don't have the frequency handy right now. Date: 05/30/16 08:07 Re: Housatonic operation plan? Author: aehouse While most pof the Housatonic is on the former New Haven Berkshire Divison (north-south), a tiny portion that accesses the limestonw plant is a remnant of the old Central New England that one connected Hartford with Poughkeepsie and Maybrook, N.Y.
The rest of the CNE (by that time also part of the New Haven) was junked in the late 1930s, though a portion of its mainline from Canaan west to Lakeville survived as a branch into the 1960s. Art House Date: 05/30/16 19:32 Re: Housatonic operation plan? Author: GeoKathy Thanks for the advice!
