Ashtabula Coal Dock Still Scheduled to Close?
Author: fatnrat

It is nearly the beginning of June and the coal dock at Ashtabula has not yet closed. Was supposed to close at the beginning of May, but NS still ran a few coal trains out of there to Shire Oaks, PA since. Is NS still going to close the docks? TIA.

Maybe NS is still using for a little while longer because they feel there is to much congestion around Sandusky OH and the Sandusky District.

Also things could change, it all could be because of the ns cp merger...

Al, the CP & NS did not merge. I found that out about 2 to 3 month's ago when I looked here on Train Orders and also in the Railfan Railroad Magazine along with the Trains Magazine. Even the national army got involved about no merger.

I think the poster is referencing at the time of the announcement the CP/NS merger fight was a forefront issue and may have been a deciding factor for closing the docks to save any and all penny's possible. Now that CP has backed down and some of the pressure is off.... Still waiting for the 1000 miles of branch lines to be trimed in 2016. Here we are almost half way through 2016 and only, to my knowledge, has the West Virginia Secondary has been spun off.
