When you say new, do you mean replacement or addition?

OK. So why do they need new crossover?

I believe to relieve the back up when East Penn MFG (DEKA BATTERY) is getting a shift which usually takes quite a bit of time and backs up eastbound trains

Would part of the reason also be that the only crossovers after leaving Blandon are at Alburtis? And after Alburtis, CP-Burn? Not much ability to control traffic flow. I know when I used to live in Macungie there was a set of crossover's there, long since removed. Will a new interlocking be installed at this location?

Makes sense to have at least one new set of crossovers, before putting in bi-directional signalling.  The Reading Line can get a bit backed up, when Allentown can't take trains in.  These are not slow speed crossovers they are putting in.  Would seem to be a waste to put in such large switches, if they were only going to use Track Authorities to "run opposing" and have to enter the block at Restricted Speed.

Word on the street is that the Reading Line is soon getting bidirectional CTC (261).
