I believe to relieve the back up when East Penn MFG (DEKA BATTERY) is getting a shift which usually takes quite a bit of time and backs up eastbound trains Date: 06/28/16 12:27 Re: Crossover Work at Lyons PA NS Reading Line Author: nkp746 Would part of the reason also be that the only crossovers after leaving Blandon are at Alburtis? And after Alburtis, CP-Burn? Not much ability to control traffic flow. I know when I used to live in Macungie there was a set of crossover's there, long since removed. Will a new interlocking be installed at this location?

------------------------------------------------------- > OK. So why do they need new crossover? Makes sense to have at least one new set of crossovers, before putting in bi-directional signalling. The Reading Line can get a bit backed up, when Allentown can't take trains in. These are not slow speed crossovers they are putting in. Would seem to be a waste to put in such large switches, if they were only going to use Track Authorities to "run opposing" and have to enter the block at Restricted Speed.
