Author: calsubd At about 1:30 am, Train blocked a road until cleared, no big deal, until the local news gets the story then all we heard was "Train Derailment, Train Derailment", when a simple "Road closure due to RR activity would have sufficed, train actually was the return train from Fernandina Bch. to Waycross, Ga. derailed car was loaded with pulpwood , 97 cars total, have a nice day!

I'm not sure how far back the moniker "Fernandina Rocket" goes, but I've always heard railfans call it the "Rocket" in both directions. I've also heard different explanations regarding the origin of the name. Most common was that this train used to carry rockets / missiles for the King's Bay sub base.
