Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway bicycle train
Author: OCtrainguy

This past weekend, my wife, son and I participated in the LGSR bicycle train.  The bicycle train loads at Jim Thorpe, PA and brings you up to White Haven, PA.  You get your bicycle and begin the 25 mile trek to Jim Thorpe at your own pace.  It's a great ride through the Lehigh Gorge state park and I recommend the bicycle train.  As an added bonus, the train had one of the Reading & Northern's ex-Sante Fe GP30s on each end.  It made for some added photos during the weekend.  In addition, the regular LGSR trains had a GP30 as well instead of the LGSR SD50.  The R&N classifies the GP30s as GP39s.  Here are some photos.

1.  The Saturday morning bicycle train ready for boarding at the station.
2.  Closer look at the 2532
3.  The 2531 will lead the train back to Jim Thorpe.

More photos to follow..

The Reading and Norhern painted a pair of gondolas for use in bicycle train service.  Peronally, I really like the paint scheme.

5.  Gondola 16
6.  Gondola 15

A few more to share.

The final group of photos.

7.  The bicycle loading process
8.  After dropping the bicyclists off in White Haven, the train makes its way back to Jim Thorpe, seen here passing TANNERY.
9.  Another photo from Tannery

The Saturday morning train we rode was sold out.  The ride through the Lehigh Gorge was great and the engines were an added bonus.  Hope you enjoy the photos.

Very nice, OC.  My first glance at the first photo gave me the impression that 2532 was wearing a dunce cap!
I suspect younger T/O members may not know what a dunce cap was, as dunce caps were before my time, but were often seen in cartoons and comics.

That's how I remember them, in the cartoons such as Tom & Jerry.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Great pictures. This 68-year-old bicyclist/rail fan had the time of his life last fall riding the train and then bicycling the 25 miles back to Jim Thorpe after his bike was unloaded in the accompanying photograph..
