Eastern Railroad Discussion > Seaboard, NC question?Date: 07/22/16 11:13 Seaboard, NC question? Author: Benched_it Do any trains pass through Seaboard, NC any more? I've only been there once and the rails back then were
covered in rust... not that it means anything. I think I read that 8-12 a day passed through but I think that must be outdated? Thanks! Jay Date: 07/22/16 11:38 Re: Seaboard, NC question? Author: Asheville_G Seaboard,NC, assuming your talking about the one just NE of Weldon,NC.
I'd say your looking at 8-10 in 24 hours. A pair of intermodals, a pair of Portsmouth/Rocky Mount freights, a turn job from Rocky Mt to Boykins,VA to interchange trains with NCVA, also rock trains to and from the quarry near Trego,VA to Portsmouth. Occ. Grain and windmill train moves. Also, I believe certain days of the week see more than one intermodal. Grady McKinley Asheville,NC Posted from iPhone Edited 1 time(s). Now I believe it only runs 2 days a week. The F774 is still every day though. Date: 07/22/16 12:56 Re: Seaboard, NC question? Author: florida581 Here are the scheduled trains. Actually, none of these intermodals go through Rocky Mount. They turn north at Weldon. But that's not to say that CSX might change things up when the new Rocky Mount terminal is completed. You're also missing the rock train. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/22/16 14:11 by Totallamer. Date: 07/22/16 14:17 Re: Seaboard, NC question? Author: florida581 Totallamer Wrote:

So Monday to Portmouth, Tuesday back, etc. Then it's off Saturday and on Sunday the Richmond <-> Portsmouth pool brings it back to the quarry from Portsmouth. It runs year 'round except during the winter when it's too cold/frozen to dump. When exactly it gets cut off each year varies though. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/22/16 14:33 by Totallamer. Date: 07/22/16 17:03 Re: Seaboard, NC question? Author: ctillnc As far as I know, the line through Seaboard is well-maintained, 40 or 49 mph track.
Date: 07/22/16 17:33 Re: Seaboard, NC question? Author: Benched_it I asked this on my lunch hour and have had time to look at the line again. I was
talking about Seaboard, NC near Weldon, I should have mentioned that. Apparently I was on a spur or something because I really had no clue where I was, more or less passing through. I asked because I have a couple of places in that area that interest me and I want to check them out and maybe catch a train as a bonus. When looking at Google Maps I did notice what looks like a blue locomotive? The location is here as I doubt it will show on the screen shot I did... 36.6515448,-76.993042.... Thanks for all the great info, I hope to get up there very soon! Jay Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/22/16 17:36 by Benched_it. Date: 07/22/16 17:42 Re: Seaboard, NC question? Author: Lackawanna484 There is a wye on the north side of the river at Weldon, where the branch connects with the main line. And a spur from the main south of the river, heading north into Weldon. An old railroad bridge connecting the two sides of the branch (main line?) has been dismantled. I mentioned this last week in a report on my trip on the AutoTrain.
ETA: There's a lot of track in the area of the lovely Weldon station. I'd like to check it out sometime in the future. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/22/16 17:47 by Lackawanna484. Date: 07/22/16 18:24 Re: Seaboard, NC question? Author: Totallamer Lackawanna484 Wrote:

The line to Portmouth is ex-SAL. So there was the S-Line from Raleigh to Richmond right? The line to Portsmouth splits off in Norlina. After the SAL/ACL merger they connected the Portsmouth line to the A-Line there on the north side of the river and abandoned the line between Norlina and Weldon except for the Roanoke Rapids Spur.
