Eastern Railroad Discussion > SETPA storm problem on north side (RDG)Date: 07/25/16 17:45 SETPA storm problem on north side (RDG) Author: rdgrailfan The entire North side (old Reading Company) has a combination of signal and power problems due the heavy storms that rolled through the area. My rain gauge at home shows 3..5 inches
Warminister Line service is suspended due to signal and power, must be downed trees on the line, maintenance staff walking the line with chain saws. Doylestown, West Trenton and Lansdale all reporting 45 minute plus delays due to power problems Telling commuters to seek "alternate travel means" Not good since they are already running packed trains and there is no alternate means for three lines. Everyone is getting fed up with the Regional Rail service. It rains = the system falls apart It gets hot = the equipment breaks down It snows = they run a "Saturday schedule" with 1 hour service Weekends &Holidays = the crews mark off and they annul trains due to manpower problems It gets cold = the equipment breaks down It takes 8-12 weeks of weekend or mid-day bustitution to do track work or tree trimming on each branch line Somebody jumps in front of a train = SEEK ALTERNATE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION Before all the woes of 2016, most rush hour trains were over crowded. I have a feeling as long as gas stays dirt cheap, people are going to be driving to center city once the system gets back to "normal". One cannot expect perfection with damagaing winds, hail, and a barrage of lightning everywhere.

Huge variation in moisture levels, upper level wind shear, sufficient turbiulence to generate huge wind power over small areas unlucky enough to be underneath.
