It seems like these units have been out forever! While in reality it hasn't even been a year, the 4000-4001 blue-grey "horse mane" painted engines have been in confinement for so long in the Mid Atlantic and southeast, it was rare to see them in other parts of NS' system until recently. Once they were split up, they have been roaming around the last month or so in revenue service, and I was fiiiiinally able to see one of the two Monday in Leetonia, OH. Here's #4000 leading 11K thru Leetonia. 

1) 11K; Leetonia, OH - 8.22.2016
2) The newest member of the AC44C6M group sitting out in Altoona on Friday

Thanks for looking! I just completed an 8-day trip to the central PA area. Hope to have some pics and videos up for you all in the coming days.

Great Pics !

A dozen paint up like 4004 and pair together
would look nice.

As a standard corporate paint scheme.
Stick with the current all black.

?In my opinion the blue and gray scheme is much much better than that plain old black & white.  I know others feel as I do about that nice blue and gray.

I will agree.  Black and Gray are NS corporate  colors, June, 1, 1982..  
The Blue reflects NS part of Conrail, June 1, 1999.  

This how I look at it.

No, it's not.  There are a lot more who think the "horse mane" colors look cartoonish and gaudy.

#4000 just rolled into New Haven IN

Does anyone know if the 4004 has been released from Altoona into revenue service yet or is it just outside the shops?

It still has to go through testing before it is released.

Thanks Chris.  I was just curious because I will be at the Station Inn next week and noticing they seem to be moving anything different looking i.e. heritage units,special paints,etc away from this area. Maybe  my imagination but they did the same thing last year and I've watching Heritage units website and a month ago they were running like crazy past the Station Inn.  I'm sure they will be back a day or two after Labor Day.  I will still be an NS fan thou and there must be another reason someone's not letting me see all the Heritage units or go rail, 911,the DCAC conversions and everything else different.  I'm still going to have a good time.

I agree with you..... ANYTHING is better than those old time-worn black horses!
