Anybody have an explanation why there is a white line under the 2353 road number on the MP15?

NS used the white line under the road number to signify a unit that was not equipped with alignment control couplers.

Thanks Chris.  Now can you offer an explanation on 'alignment control couplers'?  That's a term I've never heard about.

OOS, is it normal to have that much power at Abrams yard.

Alignment control coupler:  http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,161990.  I didn't know what it was, either.

Does Abrams use remote control locomotives in their yard operations, or is this lokie just passing through?

I haven't spent much time around Abrams, post Conrail merger in 1999. NS started chasing everyone away that used to hang out there.

You'd think they use the line under the number to indicate the opposite:  it has aLINEment (alignment) control couplers.  Makes more sense.

2353 is one of four purchased by the Reading & Northern at the Blackmon auction on 8/18.

Thanks Jimmie.  And to think this was discussed 14 years ago!  Explanation makes sense.  (kind of like HO couplers that have springs to bring them back to "alignment" position...

Abrams does use remote control operations, however, I have no idea about the schedule of said operations.  All I know is that every once and a while radio chatter on my scanner is taken over by that annoying remote control automated voice.
