Signal Sunday -- Good mornin' Cresson.
Author: NKP715

It's 6:20 AM on 8/25, and the sun is just rising, bringing with it
the anticipation of another day on the NS's West Slope.  We're
looking at the EB Home Signals at MO, and already have a Clear
for a train coming up the grade on track 1.  Some 2 miles after
going thru MO, it'll crest "The Mountain," drop down "The Slide,"
and descend some 1000 feet over approx 11 miles into Altoona.

For me, one of the best parts about West Slope visits is meeting
the folks there - - spent some enjoyable time talking with MILW86A.
If you haven't already, check out his post from earlier today.

A breath of fresh air--circular tri-lights instead of hooded signals!

I suppose it was Conrail using what they had on hand when they shut down MO tower and reconfigured the signal system. When they closed Rockville and reconfigured the signal system between there and Harrisburg they put searchlight signals at c.p. Harrisburg but PRR position light signals at the east end of Rockville interlocking but on an interstate highway type signal bridge.

Those are Conrail signals. I have seen other ones around.  On the north side of CP62 in Greencastle, PA (NS Lurgan), there are very similar signals to those in Cresson. The other ones there were taken out when they reconfigured Greencastle. New ''Darth Vader'' signals there now.......

To reiterate what ns1000 stated, those are the late Conrail's standard signal.  Sometime in the 1980's Conrail established a standard signal.  They chose the "G" style signal.  To the best of my knowledge, the G signal is still Conrail Shared Assets standard....I'm not a signal guy, but I remember attending a pre-bid for work on Conrail Shared Assets in northern New Jersey back in the early 2000's.  CR's signal engineer made it very clear that only G signals were to be used.

Of note is that there are various manufacture's who will fabricate the G signal, and they all have very slight differences.
