Eastern Railroad Discussion > Horseshoe Curve Monday August 22ndDate: 08/28/16 17:04 Horseshoe Curve Monday August 22nd Author: MILW86A Hello all:
After getting my rental after riding 42 in from Pittsburgh I headed up to the curve. It was my only visit there on the trip. But well worth it. And thanks NS for clearing the brush off, the views were better here this time than a year ago when I was out here 1. Lite helpers go West 2. Stack train past the PRR Geep. The geep needs a little TLC. 3. A 6 pack of GE's take another intermodal train up the mountain. All were on line. More to come..... Date: 08/28/16 17:09 Re: Horseshoe Curve Monday August 22nd Author: MILW86A 4. More intermodal coming downhill
5. A empty coalie, the only non IM train I would see there 6. Still more intermodal Date: 08/28/16 17:18 Re: Horseshoe Curve Monday August 22nd Author: MILW86A Date: 08/28/16 17:24 Re: Horseshoe Curve Monday August 22nd Author: MILW86A Date: 08/28/16 17:29 Re: Horseshoe Curve Monday August 22nd Author: CNW8531 Looks like your having a good time out there Dave. 14. Hey....Westbound....with IM!! 15. Pushin on the rear. By this time I was feeling a little crisp. So went back into Altoona, checked in to my motel. Showered, ate at Bob Evans(they dont have them in Iowa and I love Bob Evans). Picked up a six pack of Molson XXX for the room and was out like a lite by 8pm. I slept well. Trust me!! More to come from the trip later on. Thank you all for looking. Comments and questions welcomed. Question, did you see anyone with the fold up,camping type chairs up top? Are they allowed? (We want to visit, but my wife has a broken toe. She couldn't stand for a long time) Thanks, railburner Posted from Android Date: 08/29/16 14:46 Re: Horseshoe Curve Monday August 22nd Author: MILW86A there was a couple who had folding chairs. there are also plenty of picnic benches and regular benches too.
Also the cable car that takes you up there was OOS when I was there. So be prepared to walk A LOT Of stairs. Date: 08/29/16 22:25 Re: Horseshoe Curve Monday August 22nd Author: MC6853 MILW86A Wrote:

Of course I realized I'd forgotten spare camera batteries in the car once we'd reached the top, and the thing wasn't due to run for another 25 minutes... Evidently I'm not in good enough shape for that many stairs; who knew? Nice images, BTW...
