It was told to me last week that the midweek crew that runs that train doesn't like railfans.

Toledopatch is correct.  I was just told this particular crew goes out of their way to discourage railfans from taking pictures of their train.  How unfortunate .....

And this is 100℅ factual information based on....?

Every photo I've seen of this train posted on here, they are operating into the sun...the Orange safety Flags (that's what they are) hanging in the windows provide shade.

Now, if it was an overcast day or rainin, then I'd think about the statment of the crew having issues with railfans, but that's not the case.

Fans who were out earlier last week told me Saturday that the flags were waving out the windows on numerous occasions during the Tuesday and Thursday trips. I can't independently verify that, but photographers should be alert to that possibility and plan accordingly.

Eyewitness accounts from two friends who chased the train from Scranton to Slateford yesterday and have encountered similar behavior from this particular crew in the past.  The CMO is known to be a pretty resourceful guy.  I'd find it hard to believe that crews must use red flags or safety vests because his locomotives aren't equipped with some type of sun visor or shade.

And my two cents worth about this non issue - so what. I certainly could not give a hoot about some material hanging from the window. Does that really screw up your photo? In this day and age to see and HEAR Alcos operating is fantastic regardless of window dressing. DLH

It's a potential blemish on the photo, yes. The hostile crews know this, which is why they do it -- just like the jackass on the NS Fort Wayne Line who rigged up a fluorescent green safety vest in the nose railings of a 'heritage unit' last year or the one on the Bellevue side who instigated the whole "open door policy" brouhaha the year before. Is it the end of the world? No, but it's definitely spiteful and unnecessary. And I'm sure that if the guys who do this stuff are reading this, they're thinking, "Yay, it's working! We're pissing the foamers off."
