This event happened on Friday, on the CN Mount Clemens Subdivision around Eight Mile Road. Eight Mile Road is just past MP 10.
Not much of anything happened.......I guess the train crew saw it and stopped the train, before reaching that spot.

WARREN — Police are investigating the origins of a device that exploded Friday afternoon, September 23 along railroad tracks near 8 Mile Road and Hoover in Warren. Warren Mayor Jim Fouts announced via Facebook that the explosion was "somewhat stronger than an M-80," and that no one was hurt. Fouts said the Michigan State Bomb Squad, Homeland Security, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Detroit and Warren police departments are investigating incident, which "does not appear to be terrorist related."
WDIV-TV reports the device was a "small metal pot with an unknown substance," that detonated and caused minor damage to the tracks.

Investigators said they found a small metal pot with an unknown substance on the tracks.

The device detonated and an explosion occurred which caused minor damage to the tracks, police said."Earlier this afternoon, we had what might have been an explosive device detonate alongside the railroad tracks between Hoover and Groesbeck," Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said in a Facebook post. "It is estimated that it was somewhat stronger than an M-80. No damage and no one was hurt. While the Michigan Bomb Squad, ATF, Homeland Security and Warren Police are investigating it does not appear to be terrorist related. Detroit Police were notified as well. Both Police departments arrived on the scene about the same time. It is estimated that it had the strength of an M-100. At most it could best be described as a small explosion."

Sounds like a meth pot to me

Well, an M-80 will do a good job of blasting a large weed (did it many times), but aside from moving a few stones of ballast, I can't see what other "minor damage" they could be talking about.
