Mertztown, PA station gets a new sign
Author: jim6300loco

Hi All,
My former employer Atlas Minerals & Chemicals asked me to make a new sign for the Mertztown Station. (Atlas has owned the station since 1963.) The former sign which my son Beertrain and I made back in 1990 was beyond restoration. The orginal sign was liberated by someone else back in the 70's. here are two pics of it.

The sign has a very traditional look to it.  Like it!

Jim6300loco,
I've been taking photos at Mertztown since the mid - 80's. I always tried to get the "Mertztown" sign in the photo.  I never knew that you and your Son created and placed that sign.
Thank you.  Steve Kley

I also had Atlas change the colors of the station to it's current colors back in 1990.( Atlas had painted it gray when they bought it} The Plant manager back then was receptive to doing that.  The Longswamp historical society would like to acquire it and fix it up and make a local museum out of the station.  It was due to another current employee  getting them to the replace sign .
